Just bought A Paidar. I know it needs hydraulic fluid. I have no idea where to add it though. Even worse because I have no idea what year or “model” it is. Any information would be greatly appreciated

The model number is usually a piece of paper stapled to the seat bottom. Mine like many wore off from use and age. You can get a general idea of the age or era of the chair by it’s features. Google Paidar chair images, and you’ll find some old catalog images of the models.
As far as filling the oil, I have the same issue. Unfortunately there aren’t many schematics or how to’s out there.
I have the same question regarding how to add hydraulic fluid to a 1967 Paidar barber chair. How do you check the amount of fluid and given the age, should the fluid be changed, meaning drained and all new fluid added like changing oil in a lawnmower or just add to the existing fluid? Any other maintenance I should be doing? Thank you in advance.
Same here. A lot of the fluid has leaked out the 2-3 times it’s been moved and leaned sideways because someone didn’t know to not do that. I’ve been told to use 5W30 motor oil. Also, type F transmission fluid. And then not to use hydraulic fluid at all. I found a blurry photo of a faded tag that said the new chair came with a bottle of oil and to never use linseed oil in it. It said to use a funnel to pour some under the seat. Pour in a little, pump the lever, and when it raises you’re done. Don’t add more.

ADDING HYDRAULIC FLUID TO A PAIDAR: what do you use and how much?
I have a 1950 Emil J Paidar model 570. You change the oil buy taking off the seat cushion. Simply lift the cushion from the front edge and it will come off. There is a lid over a fill hole in the middle of the plate that the cushion covered. Open that lid by sliding to the right or left. Fill this chair with chair with Hydraulic jack oil that you can get at any auto parts store. It will take under a quart. Not much needed to get the chair working properly.
If the chair is very old and you are going to do some restoration, you might as well take it apart and clean all the old oil out and start fresh.
